I received this recipe from one of my many Ex-Sister In Law’s, years and years ago, and it has been languishing in my recipe box ever since. I made it a few months ago and again today for a friends birthday.

I have only had a few bites of this cake as it is very sweet, so I cannot tell you if it is really better than sex or not, although in my book there are not too many things better than sex!

It is easy to make, super yummy (or so I hear) and very decadent. Give it a try and then you tell ME is it really better than sex?

I make a double batch using a 9 X 13 pan.

2 boxes of your favorite cake mix (Chocolate is preferred)
1 can sweetened condensed milk (I used Fat Free)
1 jar of Caramel
1 tub of Cool Whip
3-4 Heath Bars crushed

Make the cake mix according to the mix directions and place in the greased pan, you will have to cook it much longer (and lower in my opinion) than the box indicates, if you do the double batch.

When the toothpick comes out clean, remove and poke holes in the cake with the end of a wooden spoon or something of similar size .

Pour the condensed milk all over the cake, trying to get it into the holes (this works best when the cake is still warm from the oven)

Pour on the Caramel sauce next, saturating the cake

Let cool and frost with the cool whip and top with the crushed Heath Bars

**I imagine that you could use just about any combination of cake/and toppings.

So, I have to tell you that today, I tried the most amazing cheese that I have ever had the opportunity to taste, it was simply amazing.

The Olive Tapenade Chevre is the first one I tried and purchased. It is so smooth and creamy and is like velvet on your tongue, I was totally blown away. If you are a cheese lover, check their website out here, they also sell other varieties of cheeses and are based here in the Pacific Northwest.

They are at our local Farmers Market as well, if you can go in person.

I highly recommend their cheese, up next I am trying their Roasted Hazelnut and Frangelico Goat Cheese, can you imagine that!

My husband gets to sample food from all over the world on his travels. He decided to fix me dinner, and made Plantains two ways, fried green plantains called Tostones and ripe Plantains, called Maduros. He actually fried the green ones and they taste a bit like bananna chips, the Tostones he fried as well and then baked some in the traditional manner.

I have to say I loved the ripe Plantains, both fried (twice) and baked, they were so dang good. I am afraid I am seriously addicted. The green ones (which were also fried twice), were not my thing.

They are served with two seperate dipping sauces which are both amazing!

This particular blog post is nearly a year old and I never did add the information on the sauces and cooking them, but it should be pretty easy to find on the web!

Today marks the one year anniversary of the loss of our Beautiful, Majestic, Martha Anne. She was only seven, I thought she would be here so much longer, taken swiftly.

To say we still feel the loss is an understatement, we still talk about her constantly, remembering all her goofy ways and silly self. Bella Sue has filled a huge hole in our heart and she is loved and treasured, but Martha was our “once in a lifetime dog”.

We will never forget her, nor will anyone who ever met her. She was a friend to all, a constant companion and a goofy, happy dog.

I decided to share some of the million and one photos we have of her, our Baby, our darling daughter.

I will never forget you my beauty, always in our hearts………

I am having about 6 big parties this summer and am looking for some new ideas on what to serve!

In the past I have done the usual barbecued burgers/dogs/salads, a Mexican theme and related foods, Ribs, Salmon with the accompanying side dishes.

Several will be in late summer and it will be really warm.

Any ideas/suggestions/recipes/themes appreciated!

Meet the new love of my life, my Digital Pressure Cooker!

I have to say it is the most used appliance in my house lately. I can make rice in 6 minutes flat, a pork roast in 90 minutes. It makes everything better and faster.

The neatest thing about an electric one (at least this one) is that it has a sear feature so you can sear your meat to get a nice crust in the same pot you cook it in.

I adore it! and highly recommend one, especially for you busy mom’s out there!

Hubsters and I recently tried Smoked Jalapeno Poppers at our local farmers market, 3 of the little suckers for five bucks! Expensive, but soo smoky and delightful, worth every penny!

We were smoking a Prime Rib this weekend and I wanted to give these a whirl, they are very easy and the taste is amazing, truly. If you don’t have a smoker you can get directions for doing it on your charcoal grill here.

12 Jalapenos seeded and de-stemmed
1/4 lb Mexican Chorizo Sausage, casings removed
1 package cream cheese, room temperature
1/2 cup grated cheddar cheese

Cook the chorizo until done, remove from the pan and drain. Mix all the remaining ingredients together and pipe into your prepared Jalapenos. Follow the directions above for your charcoal grill and if you have a smoker, smoke em!

I thought I would update you on Miss Bella Sue who turned one a few weeks ago. She weighs in at a stropping 20.5 lbs and is all muscle. She still makes relatively little noise, no barking, just an occasional growl.

This is how she spends her evenings, laying on the back of daddy’s chair, with her favorite blankie! Spoiled ya think?

She is the apple of our eye and we just adore her!
